Register of persons

The National Register of Persons is a register of all those who have been domiciled in Iceland since 1952.

The registered items include ID number, name, domicile, etc. In addition, all changes to an individual's civil status are registered, among them birth, baptism, marital status, domicile, death, etc. A residents register is prepared every year on the basis of the National Register and it also forms the basis of the electoral rolls prepared for every election in the country.

The National Registry issues certificates on births, death and marital status and channels information to the general public, to businesses, institutions and the government.
